#14 I asked chatGPT to write about how to build a chain with clay.

This is what it said:

"To begin building the chain, start by shaping a small piece of clay into a circular link. Use your fingers to pinch and smooth the clay until it forms a smooth, even shape. Then, create a small hole in the center of the link using a skewer or toothpick. This will allow you to connect the links together later on.

Repeat this process to create additional links, each one slightly smaller than the last. As you progress, you can experiment with different shapes and sizes to create a more interesting and dynamic chain.

Connecting the Links

Once you have created all of the links for your chain, it is time to connect them together. To do this, take a small piece of clay and roll it into a thin coil. Place the coil through the hole in one of the links, then gently press it against the side of the link to secure it in place. Repeat this process to connect all of the links together, adjusting the size and shape of the coils as needed to create a smooth and even chain.

Finishing and Firing

Once your clay chain is complete, it is time to let it dry completely. This can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, depending on the size and thickness of the links. Once the chain is completely dry, it is ready to be fired.

The firing process will depend on the type of clay you are using, as well as your specific firing equipment. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for your particular clay and equipment to ensure a successful firing. Once the chain has been fired and cooled, you can add any finishing touches, such as glazing or painting, to complete the piece.

Conclusion

Building a clay chain is a fun and creative project that can help you develop your hand-building and sculpting skills. By selecting the right clay, preparing it properly, shaping the links, connecting them together, and finishing and firing the final product, you can create a unique and beautiful piece of art that you can be proud of. So why not give it a try and see what you can create?"

This was super interesting to read AI's interpretation, and honestly, I don't think it said anything too crazy, except the step where you make a small hole in the links and then put a thin piece of clay through it, I think it would be extremely complicated to put thin coil through a whole with the size of a skewer.

I do agree with GPT when it said "Building

a chain is fun". This project was indeed very fun and it was a cool building exercise.

If/when I make a second chain I will be a lot more careful gluing the pieces together, so the piece looks a lot cleaner.
