This past week, I have been thinking hard about where I can add a second medium to my wall altars. Initially, I thought about the back wall being made of wood. This way, the piece is also hopefully lighter. But I am not sure I am in love with this idea.
Another idea, and the one that excites me the most, is to have a backdrop, but rather than it being flat, I was thinking about having strings of marigolds (most likely paper marigolds) alternated with strings of ceramic spheres or some other shape.
Lastly, I considered having dow rods to make the middle altar walls or arch. So, we would have a ceramic "back plate" touching the actual wall where it would be installed, the middle arch in the altar would be made using the dow rods, and in the front, I can have a decorated arch made out of clay… (I hope this makes sense.) Here is the sketch.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Just a few ideas. I want to have 6 to 7 altars with different sizes, I think I can probably incorporate all of these ideas into the project maybe each altar will have different elements added in different ways.
This is the first altar-shelf I made, I love the idea of it having doors and being able to open them. It would be cool to make a little skeleton guy and make it pop out of the shelf when you open the door.
I am excited to see this project finished and see where it lands.
