Summer Recap

Having access to the studio during the summer break was awesome. Going into the summer, I had a list and a bunch of sketches with everything I hoped to make. Here are a few random projects I started but haven't finished just yet.

  • THE BUST. For a while now, I have wanted to sculpt another face to keep practicing with human figures. This past month I started a bust, she is smol but she is cute. When I decided to start building it, I didn't know what/who to sculpt, I just wanted to make a bust, so I did one without an image to reference from and while it was a fun experiment, next time I definitely need an image to look at, so it can hopefully look more realistic. At the moment, the bust is located in a damp box waiting to be finished... To Be Continued.

  • LITTLE MEMORIES. Picture #2 started with me wanting to make small figures to represent each year of my life, but they slowly turned into separate groups representing a phase or season in my life. I painted the figures and finalized them with a clear glaze. I am waiting to fire them and decide if need to make more figures.

  • YEEHAW PARTNER. I have been entretaining the idea of drawing on pots and mugs. In picture #3, I carved and painted the Yee-zard boy. I still need to glaze it and fire it, but he is looking very handsome.

  • POTS. Pictures #4 and #5 are pictures of a random mug I made, and I wanted to include them in this post because I am very proud of how it turned out in general, especially the trimming. I often struggle with the foot because I am not patient enough, but this one is so beautiful, and I am so very proud. *w*

  • MARBLE. My Instagram feed is bombarding me with clay-marbling videos, and I really wanted to try it! At the beginning of summer, Liv, Kelsie, and I made dirty porcelain clay and brown stoneware. I mixed a little bit of both together and handbuilded a cute little mug to test the mixed clay. I believe it is already bisque, but I honestly may have forgotten it existed.

  • EARING HOLDERS. I love that I made these. The black one I made last spring semester because after I shaved my head, I started buying and wearing a lot of long earrings, and I needed something/where to put them and I absolutely love how it turned out. I showed my sister and friends and they also loved it... so I made a bunch more. A lot of them still need to be glazed.

Note. I need to figure out a new way of building the earring holders since most of them started leaning after the first firing; I think the goblet project will help me fix that issue.
