Indiana Clay Conference

This was the first time I ever attended a clay conference, I feel incredibly privileged to be able to learn tricks and techniques from so many great artists such as Peter Pinnel, Stephani Galli, Andréa Connel, Von Venhuizen, and many others. I also had the opportunity to watch my classmates, the Postbacs network, talk and plan for their future. I thought it was really awesome to start learning about what an artist does after graduating. The answers are endless; in the conference, there were talks to guide students on applying for MFA's and residency after receiving a BFA. I obviously have a long way to go before even thinking about those options, but now I feel prepared and informed to make a decision in the future.

The moment I entered the conference room, I noticed a bright sculpture from afar; when I finally approached it, I was immediately able to identify the work. I didn't know who the artist was, but I could tell by the elements that they were a Dominican artist, I was so excited to see a fellow Dominican's work I couldn't wait to meet them and chat with them. Later that day Max introduced us, turns out she is Dominican, from the same state I was born in, so we are technically cousins xD she makes beautiful sculptures and is workig towards her MFA in IU Bloomington. (she likes piña coladas and enjoys long walks by the beach. lol)

The gallery reception was in IU Bloomington, which, by the way, I am obsessed with. The campus is very charming, I was amazed by the beautiful architecture and the cute shops all around the college town. I am glad for this trip because otherwise I would have never had a reason to visit IU Bloomington.

The Gallery Show was great! There were so many amazing pieces from IUS such as current resident artist Sarah Zimmerman, Molly Otrembs, and the one and only Brian Harper, who closed the conference with the most beautiful, most inspiring speech, not only for his students but to every artist that was present that weekend.

Like I said before, this trip to ICC was a great experience for me, gave me a chance to get my feet in the water and start thinking about the future, before the trip I didn't have any intention of furthering my Education after graduating with a bfa but now after spending a weekend with the Postbacs and listening to their experiences I may give it a chance.

I can not wait for NCECA!
